The Highways Agency is working to improve the M4 between junctions 19 and 20, and the M5 between junctions 15 and 17, by introducing managed motorways. It's hoped that the scheme will improve safety and journey times around the notorious Almondsbury interchange. An average of 110 vehicles use the junction on a daily basis, making it the busiest in the West Country. When the scheme is complete, overhead gantries will inform drivers of variable speed limits and allow them to use the hard shoulder.
