We’re not sure about you, but we’re so in the mood to give our fragrance wardrobe a bit of a reboot RN. When it comes to finding a new scent, we want more than just a good smell and so when we sniff out something good, we feel it’s our duty to share this very essential information with you.

The latest shout-about-it perfume launch of 2020? Perfect Marc Jacobs, the colossal new release from Marc Jacobs. As one of the top five female fragrance brands in the UK, we were expecting big things from its latest offering, and we were not disappointed.

Not only does this gorgeously colourful and playful bottle have a modern and bright scent, its underlying message is all about a celebration of originality and inclusivity (something we are always championing here at GLAMOUR), proving there’s more than meets the nose to this new fragrance.

A celebration of optimism, self-expression and authenticity, Perfect is inspired by Marc Jacobs’s own mantra: “I am perfect as I am,” which is symbolised by a tattoo of the word ‘perfect’ on his wrist.

He said: “I put it there to remind me that when I’m looking at myself and wishing that I could be stronger in this way or better at that thing, I can just say ‘no, I’m exactly how I need to be right now.’ So, perfect.”

Much like his tattoo, Perfect Marc Jacobs is about embracing and expressing one’s true self. It’s a story of contrasts, true to Marc Jacobs’ style, present throughout the campaign, the fragrance itself and its design.

The campaign was cast with 42 unique individuals including Kate Moss’ daughter Lila Grace Moss , Alek Wek, Akon Changkou, Mei Kawajiri and twins Margo and Madelyn Whitley. There was also an open social media casting call that went out to everyone, in the brand’s efforts to make ‘real’ people the stars of the campaign, with Isold Halldorudottir and Nathali Turner among those chosen.

Shot by fashion photographer Juergen Teller, with creative direction by Katie Grand, the cast styled themselves for the shoot with each proclaiming, loud and clear, “I am perfect as I am.”

The Perfect bottle is crafted with an elegant blend of both classic and unexpected elements – a signature of Marc Jacobs’ style. Jacobs initially designed and moulded the bottle out of clay and asked his team to bring charms to decorate the cap. On the finished product, the crystal-cut cap is crowned with an eclectic and multi-coloured collection of mis-matched charms, each one selected by Marc himself.

So, back to that scent. Perfect is a comforting floral fragrance with an addictive quality. Think of it as the perfume equivalent to highlighting primer: fresh and glowing (that’ll be the juicy drizzle of rhubarb), pumped with a scattering of dewy daffodil petals and a comforting shot of silky almond milk, finished with a whisper-soft, almost creamy woody base (the cedarwood and cashmeran). Oooof, it’s our daydreams in a spritz.

A satisfyingly floral fragrance combined with a message emphasising self-love, self-expression and originality? Well done Marc Jacobs, we’re all noses.
