In the time between Ziwe and George Santos filming an interview together and actually putting it out (one week), somehow another gay guy managed to swoop in and have sex in a Senate hearing room, stealing all the “demonic gay political energy” for the week. Now, Santos has returned, attempting to wrest back the attention he’s accustomed to. The interview debuted at 11 a.m. on December 18 and is fully the Frost/Nixon of our time. It begins with Santos inadvertently revealing he has no idea who Marsha P. Johnson is and advertently revealing he hasn’t heard of Harvey Milk or James Baldwin. From there, we learn about his cosmetic procedures, New York representative Dan Goldman’s unwillingness to pay his rent, and Santos’s love for young American progressives because they slay.
Much in the way that Beyoncé’s “My House” functioned as content that capped off the Act One: Renaissance moment, we think this interview is a welcome send-off for Santos as a media figure. But even though he says “pass,” we fully expect to see him on Dancing With the Stars next season, so who knows?
