If you're thinking of switching-up your hair colour, there's one trend that's seriously caught our attention. Cashmere blonde is every bit as soft, stunning and strokable as it sounds.

Rather than a single colour, it's a highlighting technique, which references its namesake, cashmere, in that it's so delicate and luxe, it looks meticulously handwoven and beautifully lightweight, even though it's rich and warm in all the right ways. High and low lights are applied imperceptibly throughout hair so that rather than threads of stand-out colour, the blonde simply looks harmonious and beautifully dimensional.

“Cashmere blonde is trending right now,” says top London hair colourist, Gemma Smidmore, adding “what blonde doesn't want their colour to look expensive?" As for the hair colour itself, “it's super soft, blending cool and warm tones into your hair with super-fine, delicate, little woven lights,” she explains. Even better, it's easy to maintain. "It creates a lightweight, luxurious blonde that grows out without any harsh lines,” Gemma says.

Heading into winter, she's seen demand for gentler, natural colours. “Recently, clients are asking me for softer blondes that aren't so bold,” Gemma says. “With cashmere blonde, you get this soft look and the regrowth is so forgiving when it's growing out because it's been woven so finely when it's created. This also helps with the hair quality and condition because you don't have to use loads of bleach to create this look, it's a real mixture of tones,” she explains.

The reduction in bleach means a blonde that feels warmer and cosier for the colder months, too, which we're very much here for.

As for how to keep it feeling soft and silky in between salon visits, your home haircare is key. Incorporate a mask to nourish your strands as part of your “me time” on cold nights in. And we also love hair glosses like L'Oreal's Elvive Dream Lengths 8 Second Wonder Water to coat hair with a glossy topcoat for maximum shine.

Luxe, wearable hair that looks beautiful even as it grows out? We're very much on board.
